About

Harold Smith grew up in the West Palm Beach area and earned two degrees at the Georgia Institute of Technology, a bachelor's in 1976 and a Master of Architecture in 1978. After stints at two local firms, he opened his own office in 1984 under the name Smith and Paine Architects. Smith and Jonathan Moore lead the practice with two more partners, and the team focuses its work on the island of Palm Beach.

The firm designs houses in classical and modern styles, and it takes on historic renovations of island landmarks. You'll find an oceanfront French Regency house and an island colonial in its Palm Beach portfolio, along with boutique commercial work. The ICAA's Florida chapter gave the firm a 2025 Addison Mizner Award for its clubhouse at the Palm Beach Par 3.

Architectural Digest has published Smith's work, and national designers such as Victoria Hagan credit the firm on their Palm Beach projects. If you own an older house on the island and want to restore it with care, this team has spent four decades on that kind of job.
