About

Rick Gonzalez and his father, Ricardo, founded REG Architects in West Palm Beach in 1988. Rick spent his childhood in Miami and Costa Rica and earned two architecture degrees at the Catholic University of America. He leads the firm as president and has built its practice around historic preservation and adaptive reuse, alongside civic and education work.

REG restored the 1916 Palm Beach County Courthouse, which reopened in 2008 as the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum. The team turned a 1920s Methodist church into the Harriet Himmel Theater, and it has served as master planner and architect for Mar-a-Lago since 1995.

Gonzalez has sat on the Florida Historical Commission, and in 2020 he joined the federal Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. AIA Palm Beach gave him its Gold Medal the same year. His team works from the landmarked Guaranty Building downtown and is designing that building's renovation. If you own a historic property and want to give it a new use, this team has done that work across the county for more than three decades.
